Health Canada pulls illegal weight loss product from Kelowna store

KELOWNA – Health Canada is warning consumers in the Okanagan that a health supplement store in Kelowna has been selling an unauthorized product containing bovine thyroid and a drug available only by prescription.

AD Elite Series Shredabull Untamed has been pulled from the shelves of Active Body Nutrition, according to a recent Health Canada media release.

The product is labelled to contain bovine thyroid and Yohimbe.

Yohimbe, or Yohimbine, is a prescription drug derived from a tree bark extract. Improper use can result in serious adverse reactions, particularly in people with high blood pressure, or heart, kidney or liver disease, the Health Canada website says.

Side effects include increased blood pressure and heart rate, anxiety, dizziness, tremors, headache, nausea and sleep disorders.

Health Canada recommends consumers who bought the product stop using it and consult their health care professional.

Authorized health products have an eight-digit Drug Identification Number (DIN), Natural Product Number (NPN) or Homeopathic Drug Number (DIN-HM) on their label.
