Boxing Day fire in Shuswap destroys home, vehicles

CHASE – It's a terrible end to the year for homeowners in the Shuswap who were on holidays when a fire destroyed their home.

Chase RCMP Cpl. Scott Linklater says in a news release that police responded to the fire at 8784 Squilax-Anglemont Road in Saint Ives, near Anglemont, at approximately 8:30 a.m. today, Dec. 26.

Celista and Anglemont Fire Departments arrived on scene to find a home had been lost to a fire and a detached garage was still burning.

Linklater says the fire was extinguished eventually, but the home, garage and two vehicles were lost.

At the time of the fire, the homeowners were out of the community for the holidays. The cause of the fire is not yet known but isn't considerd suspicious.

No one was injured in the fire.
