Kelowna man dies after falling off cliff at Big White

KELOWNA – A 60-year-old skier from Kelowna died this morning after falling off a cliff while skiing at Big White.

A media release from Kelowna RCMP Const. Lesley Smith says witnesses saw the man cross under a closed area rope before going over the edge.

Emergency personnel and ski patrol staff recovered the man from deep snow at the base of an approximately 30 foot cliff.

“Police believe the 60-year-old male from Kelowna was skiing when he suffered a medical emergency on the hill,” Smith says.

“Despite lifesaving efforts, emergency personnel and ski patrol staff were unable to revive the male.”

The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the exact cause of death.
