Knife pulled on Walmart store security

PENTICTON – Police were called to Penticton Walmart yesterday to assist a loss prevention officer recover a television.

Police received a call from the store around 7:20 p.m. yesterday evening, Nov. 20, after a man was caught trying to exit the store without paying for a large flat screen television box in his hands.

Police spokesperson Cpl. Ted Muchalenko says police were called when the store’s security confronted the man.

The man pulled a three or four inch long knife on the loss prevention officer, told him to back off and exchanged words before the man ran out the door, heading towards the Fairhaven housing project across the street.

Police performed an extensive search of the area including the Fairhaven complex. They failed to find the man, but are following up on surveillance video from both Walmart and Fairhaven to locate the suspect involved in this series of events.

Police couldn't say how large the television was.
