Human remains found during search of rural North Okanagan property

NORTH OKANAGAN – Police have confirmed that human remains were found at a property being searched in the North Okanagan.

The RCMP Southeast District Major Crimes Unit and Vernon North Okanagan RCMP announced the discovery in a media release issued Saturday evening, Oct. 21.

The remains were found as police were executing a search warrant at a property in the 2200 block of Salmon River Road, police say in the release.

“The RCMP and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate the discovery of the human remains. This matter it is being treated as suspicious at this time,” Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says in the release.

The Southeast District Major Crimes Unit has now taken lead in the investigation.

“No further information is being released at this time,” Moskaluk says.

A man associated with the property being searched faces numerous charges in relation to an Aug. 27 offence involving a firearm. Wayne Curtis Sagmoen, born in 1980, is due to appear in Vernon court next week for a bail hearing.

Police have not confirmed Sagmoen’s connection to the Salmon River Road property.
