Winter weather begins to hit Southern Interior

While it feels like this year's unprecedented wildfire season just calmed down, some parts of the Thompson-Okanagan are heading right into winter.

The Coquihalla Highway has now been closed southbound at Kamloops due to winter conditions, Drive B.C. says in a tweet.

The alternate route is Highway 1.

Drive B.C. highway cameras show several places receiving snow this morning, Oct. 13.

Snow is covering the sides of the Coquihalla Highway between Kamloops and Merritt, particularly at the Helmer Road exit.

It's a similar scene in the Okangan this morning, where the sides of the Okanagan Connector at the Pennask Summit are dusted with snow.

At this time, Environment Canada has not issued a special weather statement for any part of B.C., and Drive B.C. has not issued any alerts related to the new snowfall.
