Search and rescue called after dirt biker crash at Bear Creek trails

WEST KELOWNA – A woman in her 40s took a spill on her dirt bike and hurt her leg badly on the Bear Creek Recreational trails north of West Kelowna Friday afternoon.

The B.C. Ambulance Service called the volunteers with Central Okanagan Search and Rescue to help, but thick traffic on the Bennett Bridge at rush hour held up the rescuers and their equipment, according to a media release.

“As a result, a couple of members who were at the scene requested the assistance of the (Okanagan Trail Riders Association) attendant at the Bear Creek Recreational Site who had an ATV they could use,” Duane Tresnich with Search and Rescue says. The Okanagan Trail Riders Association takes care of the trails in the area for motorcycle and ATV recreational use.

It turned out the crash happened in a clearing about 100 metres from Blue Grouse Road. The search and rescue volunteers arrived just as the injured woman was being loaded into the ambulance by B.C. Ambulance paramedics.

She was taken to Kelowna General Hospital.
