B.C. Wildfire Service is dealing with a new fire near Sun Peaks

KAMLOOPS – A small wildfire has broken out in Whitecroft near the Sun Peaks Resort and while no structures are being threatened at this time the blaze is receiving the full attention of the B.C. Wildfire Service.

Fire information officer Rachel Witt says the 0.7 hectare, lightning caused blaze is about six km north of Heffley Lake near Heffley-Louis Creek Road and a ground crew is en route while air support — consisting of three tankers, six skimmers and a helicopter — is already on scene.

Witt says they are attacking the fire from the air because it is in steep, heavily timbered terrain.
