30 displaced by Penticton motel fire

PENTICTON — After a blaze ripped through Highlands Motel on Friday, June 30, those displaced are dealing with Emergency Social Services through the long weekend.

Around 30 people staying at the Highland Motel were relocated to a reception centre at the community centre gym in Penticton so food, shelter and security could be sorted out. Due to the long weekend tourism draw hotel rooms for the group were hard to come by. Support has been approved for 96 hours instead of the typical 72 hours to help cover the long weekend period.

The fire was reported around 2 p.m. on Friday.
