UPDATE: Small wildfire above Eastside Road in Penticton

PENTICTON – The small wildfire south of Penticton near Eastside Road last night was extinguished by local firefighters and B.C. Wildfire crews.

The Penticton Fire Department responded to Eastside Road, near the entrance to God’s Mountain Estate, at around 10:48 p.m. yesterday, June 25, after reports of a wildfire just above the highway.

Fire chief Larry Watkinson says one guest and 11 staff at God's Mountain Estate were evacuated to the care of the local Emergency Social Services team. He said the fire was turned over to B.C. Wildfire crews after they arrived on scene.

Fire crews limited the blaze to 0.6 hectares.

B.C. Wildfire is calling the blaze person caused. The exact cause is under investigation.
