Unauthorized use of Gyro Park bandshell an issue for City
PENTICTON – Non-sanctioned use of Penticton’s Gyro Park bandshell has become a problem for the City of Penticton.
City crews spent up to eight hours a week last summer cleaning and maintaining the band shell to keep it in acceptable condition, according to a staff report going to city council's regular meeting tomorrow, June 20.
The City has also received complaints from the public about noise and nuisance behaviour from groups of people at the bandshell.
The report recommends the City erect a temporary fence around the bandshell stage to deter vandalism and protect the stage from activities “inconsistent with its intended use as a community stage.”
The temporary fencing would not cost the City any more than the half hour it would take city workers to set it up and take it down, which would be less than what is currently being spent maintaining the unprotected stage.
