Red Wing Resort latest community to be issued local state of emergency

PENTICTON – A portion of Red Wing Resort faces a continued threat from rising waters on Okanagan Lake.

The Penticton Indian Band and Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen declared a local state of emergency for the gated community northwest of Penticton yesterday evening, June 6.

Sandbagging efforts have been ongoing along the Okanagan Lake shoreline in the community for the past two weeks. B.C. Premier Christy Clark visited Red Wing Resort yesterday on an unannounced tour of flooded parts of the Okanagan.

The potential for flooding is a possibility at the resort, but at this time there is no call for an evacuation of any homes.

A declaration of state of emergency allows first responders to act quickly, should there be a need.

Any residents affected by changes that warrant evacuation will be contacted directly.
