FLOOD WATCH 2017: Wave action damage on Okanagan Lake in Penticton

PENTICTON – The City of Penticton is currently conducting damage assessments following an intense wind storm last night.

Strong, gusty north winds battered the Okanagan Lake shoreline in spite of sandbagging and other flood control efforts over the past few days.

Some parts of Okanagan Lake Beach shoreline appears to have been badly damaged, as can be seen in these photos from the City of Penticton.

City spokesperson Mark Parker says crews have been out for several hours this morning assessing damage along the Okanagan waterfornt, where they have found considerable erosion. 

High winds combined with record high lake levels have resulted in damage to Kiwanis pier as well as significant erosion under the walkway along Lakeshore Avenue.

Parker says crews are sandbagging to prevent further erosion.
