Orphaned bear cubs get check-up in Lake Country

LAKE COUNTRY – Some extra-special patients showed up at the Tri Lake Animal Hospital in Lake Country Thursday.

Officers from the B.C. Conservation Service were forced to put down the mother of two bear cub sisters who was having conflicts with humans and becoming too bold.

Staff at the animal hospital gave the orphaned bear cubs a complete check-up. One of the animals needed a couple stitches on a cut on her front right leg.

According to a blog on the Tri Lake Animal Hospital’s website, the other bear was feisty and didn’t take to the sedation as quickly. Once she was under, Dr. Linda Kaplan found a minor cut on her lip that didn’t need sutures.

The orphans have been transported to the Critter Care Wildlife Society in Langley and the bears are reportedly doing well.

The Society specialized in caring for and releasing orphaned mammal species back in to the wild.
