Search is on for missing Cache Creek fire chief

CACHE CREEK – The Cache Creek fire chief has gone missing after going to check on water levels early this morning.

Ashcroft RCMP along with seach and rescue crews are searching a segment of Cache Creek for Clayton Cassidy, 59, today, May 5.

Cassidy was reported missing early this morning, according to an RCMP media release. 

"To date the investigation into his whereabouts have confirmed the Mr. Cassidy had been checking creek flow levels in Cache Creek, east of the village near Brookside Campground," Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says in the release. "He last had communication with someone early Friday and seen by the river."

RCMP have activated search and rescue crews, including swift water technicians and dog teams.

"Currently, an extensive ground and waters’ edge search is underway," Moskaluk says.

According to the Kamloops Search and Rescue Facebook page, the search team has also deployed a helicopter and a drone team along with the ground searchers.

Cassidy is described as a Caucasian male, about 5'11" tall and 177 lbs. with brown hair and eyes. He was last seen wearing blue overalls.

Cassidy received the Medal of Good Citizenship for his work during the Cache Creek flood in 2015.
