SOPA Square in Kelowna won’t be finished until 2018

KELOWNA – Due to unspecified construction delays, a massive south Pandosy Street development is going to take significantly longer than expected.

SOPA Square was first approved by the City in 2008 but the initial developer ran out of money and sold it to the Vancouver-based Aquilini Group.

The 14-storey condominium, apartment and commercial buildings was supposed to be finished early 2017 but Aquilini spokesperson Kristi Neumeyer says they’re now expecting total completion sometime next spring.

“Probably between February and April,” she says. "It’s due to a few different reasons. Construction sometimes gets delayed.”

Neumeyer wouldn’t specify the reasons for such a lengthy delay this late in the build, but says the project is on budget.

According to their website, 95 per cent of residential units are sold.
