Weekend events in Kamloops to keep the kids hopping

KAMLOOPS – Hoppy Easter! Here’s a mostly pun free rundown of things to check out this weekend.

As spring springs the B.C. Wildlife Park is jumping into action with four days of events for the long weekend. From Friday, April 14 to Monday, April 17 a variety of special activities are happening at the animal park, including a magician and a clown, pancake breakfasts, easter egg hunt and scavenger hunt for the older kids. The Vancouver Aquarium’s AquaVan will also be on site, bringing some coastal creatures to show off.

And since spring is coming into full swing, winter activities are ending. Sun Peaks is shutting off the lifts for skiing and snowboarding at the end of the weekend. Before they do, there’s one last series of weekend events, with an Easter egg hunt on Sunday and Slush Cup on Monday. There’s also a race to the bottom after the last chair on Monday, with some proceeds going to the Sun Peaks Health Centre.

A day before most places, Sahali Mall is holding its Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 15, with ponies, bouncy castles, an egg hunt and the Easter Bunny as well. Activities start at 11 a.m., with the hunt at 12 p.m. Admission is free.

If all the rabbit art and chocolate orbs aren’t your speed, local improv troupe the Freudian Slips are having one of their nights at the Stage House Theatre on the North Shore. This month it’s titled Strip ’N’ Sip, with a show based around being a little underdressed.

There are a few Easter egg hunts going on around town Sunday. Among the notable ones is the Kamloops Child Development Centre fundraiser at Rainbow Roost from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include the aforementioned hunt, hayrides, ponies, petting farm and more. Admission is $10 per kid.

If you’re up for a drive, Ashcroft’s Desert Hills Ranch is hosting its annual easter celebration on Sunday as well, starting at 11 a.m, though you should arrive before 10:30 a.m to catch the wagon ride to the hunt site. Donkey rides, piñatas, a dozen bouncy castles and the Easter Bunny will all be part of the day. Egg hunters need to bring their own basket.
