The City of Kelowna’s annual NeighbourWoods program is back this year with even more tree varieties for residents to choose from.
The program is intended to grow our urban canopy by offering trees to Kelowna residents at a discounted rate. Starting Monday, March 27, residents can select one of six varieties of trees at a cost of $40 + GST.
“We set out early this this year to reserve a variety of trees that work well in Kelowna’s urban forest ecosystem and have great landscaping potential,” said Andrew Hunsberger, Urban Forest Health Technician. “NeighbourWoods is all about ensuring we have beautiful and beneficial trees throughout the city by providing residents with an affordable option that can be planted in their own yard.”
Ordering a NeighbourWoods tree is as easy as one, two, tree:
To register online, residents must have an online account through Active Living and Culture (Rec-Connect) or can set one up in advance by calling 250-469-8800. There is a limited number of each tree species. A total of 500 trees will be available for purchase until sold out.
The program is restricted to Kelowna residents and is limited to one tree per household. Since 2010, residents have purchased approximately 3,000 discounted trees to plant on their properties.
