One person injured after chemical exposure at TRU

KAMLOOPS – A woman was exposed to a chemical at Thompson Rivers University this afternoon.

Kamloops Fire Rescue and B.C. Amublance paramedics were called a classroom at the Science Building at TRU at about 3:30 p.m. today, March 20, to a report of a chemical spill.

Platoon Capt. Troy Grant says they arrived to find a woman applying cold water to her face. She had been exposed to methyl chloride.

Because of the quick response to the chemical exposure, Grant doesn't believe the woman's injuries are a concern.

He says paramedics will check her out and may take her to the hospital as a precaution.

No one else in the classroom was affected, he says.
