Yet another warning about dust in Vernon
VERNON – For the fourth time this year, a dust advisory has been issued for Vernon.
The advisory, issued by the Ministry of Environment and Interior Health Authority, was released at about 11 a.m. today, March 20.
The high concentrations of coarse particulates in the air are expected to persist until there is a change in current weather conditions, the special air quality statement says.
This latest advisory follows three others issued so far this year. The first advisory was issued Jan. 31 and lifted on Feb. 3. Another was issued Feb. 23, and again on Feb. 25. The last advisory came on Feb. 28.
People with chronic underlying medical conditions are told to postpone strenuous exercise until the advisory is lifted. Staying indoors and in air-conditioned spaces helps to reduce particulate exposure. Exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have diabetes, and lung or heart disease, according to the statement.
