Road rage attack in Edmonton leaves woman with two broken arms

EEdmonton police say they are investigating lots of tips as they search for a man who is accused of breaking a woman's arms with a crowbar in a vicious road rage attack.

Police spokesman Scott Pattison says it appears the man was aiming for the women's head Tuesday morning in a quiet residential neighbourhood.

"It is alleged the male suspect was swinging for her head and she blocked the swing," he said Wednesday. "That is what we believe."

Police say the 34-year-old woman honked her horn as she was passing a car that was stopped in the street where she was trying to make a turn.

The car, described by police as a silver Pontiac Wave, followed her to a house.

When she got out of her vehicle, police say, the man ran up to her, striking her on both arms with a crowbar.

The woman was taken to hospital and underwent surgery.

"She has had multiple breaks in both arms — very significant breaks," Pattison said. "She is still in hospital."

Police are looking for a white man, about 30 years old, standing six-foot-one and with a medium build, brown hair and blue eyes.

They would also like to speak to two people who may have seen what happened.

"No road rage is acceptable, but when you have a mother who was just on her way home after dropping off her husband at work when she encountered this violent individual, you know it gives us all pause in the police service," Pattison said.
