Vernon RCMP issue warning after string of community mailbox thefts

VERNON – Over the past week, several community mailboxes in Vernon have been broken into and that's prompted a warning from the RCMP.

Police say a Canada Post community mailbox on Crosby Road was broken into on Jan. 22, and on Jan. 24, mail was stolen from three community mailboxes on Davidson Road and Old Kamloops Road.

All the mailboxes were all broken into at night, according to a RCMP media release. At this time police do not know what type of mail was stolen from the boxes.

"Residents are reminded to pick up their mail, if it’s in a community mailbox, as soon as possible," Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says in the release.

Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to call the Vernon/North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
