Shuswap man arrested after stabbing relative

SICAMOUS – A man is facing an assault charge after an argument turnded into a stabbing over the weekend in the Shuswap.

Police say a 33-year-old man sustained non life-threatening stab wounds to the arm and chest and was treated at hospital in Salmon Arm.

The suspect, a 34-year-old man who also lived at the home, is related to the victim, Sgt. Murray McNeil with Sicamous RCMP says in a media release.

On Saturday, Jan. 14 at 11:30 p.m., police received a 911 call from the residence on Bloomquist Road in Malakwa, McNeil says.

He says the altercation stemmed from an argument that allegedly started in the home.

The suspect was also taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for Feb. 25 in Salmon Arm.
