Thieves keep Penticton RCMP busy

PENTICTON – Last week was a busy one for Penticton RCMP as they dealt with numerous break-ins and thefts across the city.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says three sets of golf clubs were taken from an underground storage locker on Marina Way. The theft was reported on Jan. 3 and is believed to have taken place sometime in the previous two weeks.

Several vehicles were broken last week, including two vehicles parked at a home on Gammon Road in Naramata on Jan. 3. Carpentry tools, including a table saw and a mitre saw, disappeared from a van and wallets taken from the other vehicle. A credit card from one of the wallets was later used to make a $400 purchase at the Summerland Macs Convenience store. Police are investigating and reviewing video from the store's surveillence system.

Overnight on Jan. 8, a vehicle parked on the 700 block of Government Street was broken into overnight Jan. 8 after thieves smashed the passenger side window and took coins left inside. The same night a Cadillac was rummaged through and a Canon DSLR camera taken while in a Forestbrook Drive parkade, while an unlocked vehicle on Sunnybrook Drive was targeted for the Specialized brand triathlon bike inside.

Several storage lockers were broken into at a Winnipeg apartment complex overnight on Jan. 3. Nothing was reported missing.

Several vehicle thefts were also reported last week, including a Chrysler Intrepid stolen after it was left running in front of the Bank of Montreal on Jan. 6. A commercial van was stolen from an Estabrook Avenue business, and a 1996 Honda Prelude was also taken from a Maple Street address overnight on Jan. 9.

Police recovered a Nissan Ultima stolen from the Co-op gas bar at around 5 a.m., Jan. 9.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
