Witness helps Penticton RCMP nab impaired driver

PENTICTON – Penticton RCMP arrested an impaired driver with the help of an observant civilian last week.

RCMP spokesperson Rick Dellebuur says police were alerted by a witness of a grey Honda running several red lights in the vicinity of Haynes Street and Nanaimo Avenue on Sunday evening, Nov. 6.

He proceeded through multiple red lights before striking a parked Ford pickup truck. The driver exited the vehicle, but was monitored by the witness until police arrived.

The driver failed a breathalyzer test and was charged with impaired driving. He also received an automatic driving prohibition.

There were no injuries in the incident.

Dellebuur says police appreciate the witness’s involvement in the incident, noting his continued observance of the suspect allowed police to maintain continuity of the incident.
