At least 10 years in jail for drive-by shooter who killed Shuswap man

KAMLOOPS – A man who pleaded guilty to the 2011 drive-by shooting death of a Shuswap man has been sentenced to life in prison with no eligibility of parole for at least 10 years.

Nicholas Larsen, 25, was gunned down while he was travelling in a car driving east on Blind Bay Road about 20 kilometres from Salmon Arm on June 1, 2011.

Jordan Larry Barnes, 30, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in October, but the circumstances of the case cannot be published until the co-accused in the murder, Jeremy Wayne Davis, goes to trial to avoid swaying potential jurors.

Davis' trial is scheduled for three weeks and expected to begin in February 2017.

Barnes was arrested in Kelowna on June 13, 2014 and Davis was arrested the day before in Williams Lake.

RCMP had previously said one of the accused was known to the victim.

Barnes received the minimum sentence for parole eligibility as a result of a joint submission by Crown prosecutor Iain Currie and defence lawyer Sheldon Tate.
