LLOYDMINSTER, Sask. – RCMP now say six people died in a collision involving a semi and another vehicle near Lloydminster, Sask.

Initially police said seven were dead, but they say they've lowered the number six after investigators were further able to examine the car.

Police were called to the called to the scene of what they thought was a semi rollover about six kilometres southeast of the city early Saturday morning.

They say that when they arrived, they determined a car had also been involved in the crash.

RCMP say the victims were all from the car — three males and three females ranging in age from 17 to their early 20s — and that officers are still working to establish their identities.

The driver of the semi, which police say was a tanker carrying crude oil, was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

RCMP say the car had been heading east along a rural township road and collided with the truck at an intersection. After the collision, police say the car ended up submerged in a small body of water.

Five of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene. One was rushed to hospital but died a short time later.

Police have closed off roads in the area while they investigate.
