Two South Okanagan wineries earn nods at esteemed international competition
TORONTO – With two Okanagan wineries being recognized by a prestigious international trade competition, it's obvious there's something in the Valley's grapes.
JoieFarm Winery, which specializes in aromatic whites and rose wines and is based out of Naramata, was named best Canadian winery by the New York International Wine Competition on Thursday.
Serendipity Winery, also Naramata-based, was recognized as the best B.C. winery.
JoieFarm also earned a silver for its 2011 Gamay and bronze medals for its 2012 Pinot Blanc and its 2012 Noble Blend, while Serendipity took home bronze medals for their 2009 Merlot, 2012 Sauvignon Blanc and their 2010 Devil's Advocate red wine blend.
The New York International Wine Competition, now in its third year, reviewed more than 1,000 submissions from around the world and subjected them to a blind taste test.
It is the only major international wine competition to be judged solely by trade buyers.
