Heat women’s rugby losses to Kamloops RFC

KELOWNA – This Saturday, the UBC Okanagan Heat women's rugby team kicked off at Parkinson's Recreation Centre for their third BC Division One match-up, and were defeated by the visiting Kamloops RFC (30-10).

The visitors jumped off the bus and kept rolling scoring 15 straight points in the first 20 minutes of action, Kamloops kept UBC Okanagan pinned in their end and were content kicking for points early in the match.

Lauren Klassen 'hammer dunked' the ball in the far right side just over the goal line to score the first try for UBCO. The long conversion was too tight of an angle as the Heat cut into the Kamloops lead.

The visitors scored their third try of the first half, converted on two of those and successfully knocked in a pair of drop kicks to lead by 20 at the half (25-5).

Jasmine Doll scored the UBCO try in the second half much the same way as Klassen in the first as Doll carried several Kamloops players over the goal line and grounded the ball as time expired.

If Doll completed the convert the Heat would have won the second half of the match, as it stood the played the veteran Kamloops RFC team even in the last half. Doll for her late score and overall effort in the match was named a player of the match for UBCO. First year coach Daniel Weidner also bestowed a player of the match to senior player from Calgary, Monique Beaulieu.

The women's record now sits (0-3) in the BC Division One League. Thanksgiving weekend is off for the squad then the Heat will travel to Coquitlam, BC to face off against United on Saturday October 15th. Match time is TBA.
