LAKE COUNTRY – Two Highway 97 intersections in Lake Country were discussed this week at the Union of B.C. Municipalities conference in Victoria.
Members of Lake Country council met with Minister of Transportation Todd Stone about the Glenmore and Oceola Road intersections, which they say is causing traffic backups and are hazards for pedestrians trying to cross the busy highway.
A media release from the District of Lake Country says the district and the ministry completed planning work for an improved intersection at Glenmore and are asking to advance the project.
They are also asking for money to build a pedestrian overpass at Oceola.
“This is a major crossing point for the community and used by people of all ages and abilities,” the release says. “With a speed limit of 70 km/hr, cyclists, pedestrians and wheelchair users find it dangerous and troubling to cross safely.”
