UPDATE: RCMP search Kamloops house after report of person with handgun

KAMLOOPS – Police were out in full force across the street from St. Anne's Academy in downtown Kamloops this afternoon after a tip from the public about a person with a handgun, but a search turned up no suspect and no gun.

RCMP received a call at about 1:40 p.m. today, Sept. 26, about someone with a handgun entering a home at 146 Columbia St., according to a media release.

Officers surrounded the house with guns drawn and called for anyone inside to come outside using loud speakers. Eventually a group of officers with a police dog entered the home and searched, finding no one inside.

Police are speaking to the person who made the call to get more details.

“We had somebody call in that they thought they saw someone with a handgun go into a residence there,” Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says.

A woman and her two daughters live in the house. She says her daughters were at school and work so there no one in the house except her cat.
