Successful first month for Royal Inland’s new clinical services building

KAMLOOPS – It's been a successful first month for the new clinical services building at Royal Inland Hospital.

The three new telehealth consultation rooms are helping provide patients with more seamless access to their outpatient appointments at the hospital, according to a B.C. government media release.

The new building had its grand opening today, Sept. 16.

"Today, we are not only celebrating a brand new addition to Royal Inland Hospital, but also an investment in health care for all patients served by this hospital, both in Kamloops and in the surrounding communities," MLA Terry Lake said in the release.

The new building opened on Aug. 15.

The three telehealth consultation rooms allow patients to virtually meet with their out-of-town healthcare provider by using a monitor, video camera and microphone. Patients in Kamloops can consult with a surgeon in Vancouver and vice-versa.

The building also includes a lecture theatre and a clinical simulation centre for training and UBC medical programs.

The $69.1-million project came in on time and under budget. The surplus funds have been reallocated to planning for a patient care tower, which would be a future stage in Royal Inland Hospital's redevelopment, according to the release.
