Donation jars lifted from Vernon corner store

VERNON – A thief was caught on camera after a botched robbery at a corner store in Vernon last week.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says the crook entered Lakeview Market, located at 1501 32 Avenue, around 5:30 p.m. Friday. The approximately 40-year-old man had a white t-shirt wrapped around his face and yellow gloves on his hands.

“He attempted to open the till then stole two donation canisters, one a pink can and one a plastic box shape, from the counter and left the store,” Molendyk says.

Police don’t know how much money was in the donation jars.

A witness outside the store said the man left on a bicycle, traveling down 32 Avenue. He was last seen be witnesses near the Vernon Music School at 1705 32 Avenue.

The suspect is described as caucasian and about 5’5” tall. He was wearing a camo baseball cap, a long sleeved grey shirt and grey shorts with a dark stripe on them.
