Westbank First Nation singer nominated again

WEST KELOWNA – A West Kelowna singer has been nominated for two Native American Music Awards.

Kelly Derrickson, daughter of Grand Chief Ron Derrickson, is looking for votes from the local community as her debut album, Warriors of Love, is up for Best Female Vocalist and Best Country Recording at the Native American Music Awards in New York.

Last year Derrickson won best new artist at the Indigenous Music Awards and Warriors of Love was named best female country music album at the Coachella Valley Music Festival.

Warriors of Love, was released in 2013 and includes songs that highlight her peoples’ struggle for independence.

The ceremony will take place Sept. 17. Visit this webpage to vote.
