Ten excessive speeders caught in two hours on Highway 97

KELOWNA – Almost a dozen drivers had their cars impounded for excessive speeding in Kelowna over a two hour period yesterday.

Police set up near Ellison Lake on Highway 97 yesterday, Aug. 8, and issued 25 speeding tickets in just two hours, according to a RCMP media release.

“Of those 25, 10 motorists were issued fines of at least $368 for allegedly speeding excessively over the posted speed limit,” Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in the release. “The highest speed obtained by enforcement officers was 148 km/h in the posted 90 km/h zone.

O’Donaghey says a driver going in excess of 41 km/h over the speed limit faces a minimum fine of $368 and loses their vehicle for seven days.
