Kelowna cops surprise Pokemon players by blasting theme song instead of sirens

KELOWNA – Some Kelowna Pokémon Go players thought they were about to be hassled by local police for playing their favourite game on city property yesterday, but instead got a funny, musical surprise.

It started the evening of July 21 at Parkinson Recreation Centre where players have been gathering by the dozens since the game was launched earlier this week. There are several Pokéstops at the Rec Centre making it a popular spot to catch the pocket monsters.

“There’s a lot of people here,” the maker of a YouTube video posted today, July 22, says to the camera. “Good crowd.”

That’s when he noticed a private security guard who may have been calling the RCMP for backup.

“The cops are here because of a bunch of people playing Pokémon,” he says, laughing. “It looks like the cops scared everyone away. There’s like nobody here anymore.”

That’s when the poster revealed what the police did.

“They actually rolled up playing the Pokémon theme (song) so my faith in humanity has been restored a little bit,” he says. “It’s pretty awesome.”

There were no arrests but for some reason, there's lot of foul language in the video below.
