Teen nabbed doing 115 km/h in 50 km zone in Kelowna

A teenager driving was caught yesterday doing 115 km/h in a 50 km area.

According to a Kelowna RCMP media release, the 17-year-old driver was pulled over on Stewart Road after a police officer, who was sitting on the road in a fully marked police car, noticed a Volkswagen Jetta
approaching at an incredible speed.

The officer clocked the lone driver doing 115 km/h in the 50 km zone, at just after 9 a.m. June 14.

He activated his lights and pulled the teen over.

"This type of driving behaviour is extremely dangerous, not only for inexperienced drivers but also for the cyclists that regularly use this route. There has been an increase in speeding along Stewart Rd, since the new South Perimeter Way opened up, so you can expect a larger police presence in the area,” Kelowna RCMP Sgt. Mark Booth said in the release.

The 17-year-old had the car impounded for seven days and was issued a ticket for excessive speed, which will cost them $368.
