Break and enters result in little ill-gotten gain

PENTICTON – Police reported fewer institution and retail break ins, as criminals had varying degrees of success in a trio of incidents last week in the city.

Penticton RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says the Shatford Centre was broken into overnight, July 4. The break in was recorded on video. It appears the door was not locked properly, and the suspect, a man believed to be between 5’6’’ and 5’8’’ tall, 270 pounds in his 20s could be seen entering the building. A computer tablet and wallet were reported missing.

On Wednesday, July 6, police responded to another complaint of a break in at the So Sweet Candy Store on Main Street. Officers arrived to find no break in had occurred, rather a fight between local youth over girls and Facebook comments had resulted in a window being broken. Those involved were identified and assault and mischief charges are being investigated.

Finally, the co-owner of a downtown hobby store retrieved some merchandise that left the store illegally on Friday July 8, when two youths stole a drone helicopter from ATD Hobbies on Warren Ave.

The female owner chased after the youths and retrieved the merchandise, undamaged, without incident.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
