Three people in same vehicle killed in crash on Highway 5 near Clearwater

The three people who died in a Highway 5 collision yesterday were travelling in the same vehicle.

They were travelling north toward Clearwater in a Ford Escape when a Ford F-150 crossed the centreline and they collided head-on, according to a B.C. Highway Patrol news release issued today, March 2.

The collision was just before 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, beginning with the Alberta-plated F-150 sideswiping an F-550, which was hauling a trailer.

The driver of the F-150 was taken to hospital, but they're injuries weren't serious, and the driver of the pickup wasn't injured.

There was a total of five people in the Escape. The other two were seriously injured and taken to hospital and two of the dead were recent refugees to Canada, RCMP said.

Police are still investigating to determine why the driver of the F-150 pickup crossed the centreline, but they say road conditions weren't a factor. That driver is cooperating with police.
