30 cm of snow in the forecast prompts weather warnings in Southern B.C.

Winter storm and snowfall warnings are in effect for the Interior today, Feb. 20.

A winter storm is going to bring 25 to 35 centimetres of snow to the Coquihalla between today and tomorrow morning, according to Environment Canada.

“Snow near the summit of Coquihalla Highway will continue today and is expected to intensify this evening,” the warning says. “Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.”

A snowfall warning is in effect for Highway 1 from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass, where up to 25 cm is expected between today and tomorrow.

“Light snow will begin this morning and intensify tonight, before tapering off to periods of light snow Tuesday,” according to the warning. “Heavy snow specifically on Monday night is expected to adversely impact travel conditions across high elevation travel routes. Follow local route forecasts for greater detail.”

And another snowfall warning is in effect for Highway 3 between Paulson Summit and Kootenay Pass, where up to 30 cm is expected between today and tomorrow.

“Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.”
