Local man charged for shooting in West Kelowna that sent woman to hospital

WEST KELOWNA – While a 31-year-old West Kelowna woman remains in hospital with a serious gunshot wound, police have laid charges against a 28-year-old suspect arrested near the scene.

Evan Anthony Swite has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon while prohibited, according to a media release.

On July 4, shortly after 11 p.m. West Kelowna RCMP were called to a home on the 700-block of Spland Road. They found a woman who was conscious but suffering from a single gunshot wound.

She was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she has remained in serious, but stable, condition.

A warrant for Swite’s arrest was issued in the fall of 2013 requiring police to search a West Kelowna neighbourhood.

Police found him hiding in the bushes of a home on Nancee Way.
