Dog attack puts Fintry resident in hospital

WEST KELOWNA – A dog has been seized after attacking a person in the Fintry area last week.

Details are limited but the Central Okanagan Regional District is confirming a warrant was issued and a dog seized after it put a Fintry resident in hospital.

Spokesperson Bruce Smith says the attack happened at a residential property on Dunwaters Road in the Fintry area last Thursday evening.

“A person received serious injuries from a pitbull-type dog, I don’t know that it’s a purebred or a mix, but the individual was taken to Kelowna General Hospital,” he says.

They wounds sustained were serious enough, he says, to require a stay at the hospital.

 “It was more than just an emergency room visit.”

A warrant was issued, which allows the regional district to hold the dog for 21 days. Although it is often granted when the owner refuses to surrender the animal, Smith could not confirm if that was the case in this instance.

The dog is now in the care of the regional pound and an investigation is underway.

The identity, sex and age of the victim and the dog are not being disclosed pending the ongoing investigation. The name of the dog’s owner has also been withheld.
