North Okanagan man who died in ‘roof surfing’ incident identified

VERNON – A North Okanagan man believed to have been riding on the roof of a car before it crashed, fatally injuring him, has been identified.

He was Justin Roger Martyn, 27, of Spallumcheen, the B.C. Coroners Service said today, June 3.

According to police, he was riding on the roof of a car around 12:30 a.m. June 1 when the vehicle drove off Tronson Road near the intersection with Garmisch Road and crashed.

The vehicle rolled, and Martyn died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The Coroners Service, RCMP, and a traffic analyst have examined the scene and authorities continue to investigate the death.
