Penticton’s Slackwater Brewery’s ‘vibrant’ beer can artwork gets international praise

Penticton’s Slackwater Brewing is enjoying some international recognition for their unique artwork and designs.

They scored a fourth place finish from an international competition for consumer package design.

“Our designer had a little wine, got confident and submitted our brand and artwork to these awards,” says Liam Peyton, co-owner of Slackwater with wife Kelsey.

Designer Anja Werner of design agency Brave Creative’s submissions beat hundreds of competitors in the World Brand Design Society international competition for consumer package design.

“It’s huge,” says Liam. “She’s a one woman band, working by herself in a studio in Vancouver. It’s a pretty awesome accomplishment to get honourable mention in a competition involving hundreds of international submissions.”

Slackwater’s entire brand was recognized for its creativity in packaging.

World Design Society lauded Werner’s artwork for “making a strong connection between art, the craft of brewing and the young, vibrant personalities of the owners by placing the main focus on bright and illustrative art, much like a gallery space.”

The society said the labels mixed strong visual impact with up close communication, “conveying the values of the brewery and its surrounding demographic."
