KAMLOOPS – Rescuers are heading to a lake south of Kamloops to help rescue an elderly dog that fell over a cliff today.

A five person crew is headed to the south end of Napier Lake to try to rescue the dog, search manager Alan Hobler says. The dog, an elderly and possibly blind Akita, went over a cliff and may be in the water, Hobler says, adding a raft or a rope rescue may be needed.

Kamloops Search and Rescue got a call just after noon from RCMP. The search and rescue team don’t normally participate in rescue missions for animals, but they are this time because there is concern the owner may attempt a rescue and end up in a risky situation.

Hobler says his team will be on scene within the hour.

“Hopefully we have a happy ending,” he says.
