Police arrest Kelowna man involved in 2013 hit and run

KELOWNA – The Kelowna man involved in the hit and run of a paper carrier three years ago was arrested this weekend after a provincial warrant had been issued.

Nathan Daniel Fahl, 27, was in a vehicle with two other people on Dec. 6, 2013, when they allegedly tried to avoid a police road check on Springfield Road after leaving a house party in Rutland.

During the ensuing pursuit a fire hydrant was damaged and 41-year-old newspaper carrier Steve Kania was seriously injured.

Fahl was originally charged with dangerous and impaired driving causing bodily harm, failing to stop at an accident and carrying or threatening to use a weapon, but charges were stayed when one of his passengers, Donald Brodie, claimed he was the driver.

A warrant for his arrest was issued May 5 for two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of driving while disqualified, one count of breach and one count of failure to appear.

Fahl was arrested “over the weekend," Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers assistant coordinator Lori Holand says in an email.

Calls to RCMP to find out the circumstances surrounding the arrest were not returned.
