GUATEMALA CITY – Volunteer firefighters in Guatemala say a father and his three children have died in mudslide set off by torrential rains.
Firefighter spokesman Byron Morales said Wednesday that the slide sent tons of earth down on the family’s home at the base of a mountain. The family lived in the community of Xinaxipul, in the township of Aguacatan in the Huehuetenango department that borders Mexico.
The children were ages 2, 6 and 10.
Landslides are common in the mountainous country during the rainy season.
