Mexico City finds 3 abandoned newborns in 24 hours
Mexico City prosecutors say authorities have three newborn babies abandoned in less than 24 hours.
The cases don’t appear to be related, but represent an unusual spate of abandonments.
A 2-day-old baby girl was found on a street on the city’s west side late Tuesday.
On Wednesday, a newborn boy was found in a cardboard box outside a school on the city’s south side.
Later, to the north, another newborn baby girl was found in a restroom at a shopping mall in a low-income neighbourhood. All the babies were taken to hospitals for evaluation.
Abortion is legal in Mexico City, but adoption is often a discouragingly difficult process.
