ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – Parks Canada is promising to remove a fence that visitors say spoiled the iconic view at Signal Hill in St. John’s.
In a statement, the agency says the current fence was meant to make the venue safer but acknowledges it missed the mark.
The wooden structure fence is about halfway up the landmark hill and obscures the view of the Newfoundland capital.
Parks Canada says the offending fence will be removed this week.
It will be replaced with temporary structures that will only be used for during performances.
Environment Minister Catherine McKenna, whose department is responsible for Parks Canada, says officials heard “loud and clear” that visitors were unhappy with the fence.
