PENTICTON – It’s spring in Penticton, and nothing signals that better than what’s happening on the weekend.

The South Okanagan & Okanagan chapters of the Vintage Car Club of Canada are hosting the 26th annual Automotive, Motorcycle and Antique Swap Meet on Saturday, April 30, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the South Okanagan Event Centre parking lot next to the curling club.

Vintage vehicles, signage, advertising memorabilia, manuals, car parts and motorcycles are on display and up for sale. There will also be antique and collectible vendors from throughout the Okanagan.

Tickets will be available for a chance to win two Harley Davidson motorcycles, and Cops For Kids will be on site promoting its car show and talking about the 'Rides for Dad Motorcycle Run'.

A concession serving breakfast and lunch will be on site. Cost for admission is $3, with children under 12 free.

Saturday, April 30, is also the date for Naramata’s community yard sale, which attracted 2,000 visitors to the community last year.

Coordinator Craig Henderson says four dozen locations were noted on last year’s map to the various yard sales and fundraising events taking place at the same time in the community. He says that number translates into ten per cent of households in Naramata taking part in the single day event.

Maps can be picked up at the entrance to Naramata, Henderson says, noting all 700 maps were gone by the afternoon in last year’s event.

Besides residential sales, there will be community groups holding fundraising sales, including Naramata Elementary School Parents Advisory Committee, the Old Age Pensioners Hall, Naramata Museum, the Naramata Community Church and the Naramata Garden Club.

The Okanagan Spring Wine Festival also started this week and runs through May 8. The valley-wide event includes events up and down the valley.
